Autumn Term 2 Week 7 and 8
Apologies for last week’s blog which some of you may have noticed was the wrong one!
Here is what it should have said, with any additions from this week:
School is becoming more festive by the minute! We enjoyed watching the Christmas performances of all the other year groups in school. The children also managed two fantastic performances of the Year 1 & 2 show ‘The Inn-spectors’ and we were thrilled to have two packed audiences to perform to. Thank you to all the parents and other family members who came to watch; the children worked really hard and we were really proud of them for performing so brilliantly – we hope you enjoyed watching!
As if there wasn’t already enough Christmas excitement in school, we also had a wonderful trip out to the theatre to see Peter Pan! It was a great production and the children (and adults!) had a lovely time.
Amongst all the Christmas fun, we have still managed to fit in some learning this week! In English, we finished writing our Supersprout stories. They are so good that we are hoping to be able to read them to the younger children in school next week. We also designed our own Winter Wonderland theme park and wrote persuasively to inform people about it and try to persuade them to visit!
In maths we continued to develop our understanding of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables, using arrays, equipment and pictorial methods to represent different multiplication facts. We solved missing number calculations, such as ____ x 5 = 15 and we also solved word problems, once again using equipment or arrays to help us. Ask us to create our own multiplication word problem, for example: A spider has 8 legs. How many legs do 10 spiders have? 8 x 10 = ___. This week we have done some festive problem solving and have revisited addition and subtraction, using pictorial methods to help us calculate the answers.
On Thursday morning we had a special Christmas treat in the form of ‘Dizzy Dean’ and his magic act! It was great fun. Huge thanks to PTA for funding it for us.
