First of all, let me say how well the Christmas show went. I think that the format with Year 6 supporting Reception works really well and they genuinely seemed to enjoy the performance. I know how much the little ones enjoy having them there.
English
The persuasive writing has really developed well. The class are so much more confident with expanding an idea meaning that much of the writing has far more flow than before. Paragraphs are becoming more extended and are linking together more convincingly while the language within sentences is becoming more professional all the time. The most recent sticking point has been to generate a conclusion which both sums up the writing and drives the biased message home. It will be interesting to see how this progresses next week.
Maths
The fraction work has moved along very well and will now form part of the skills and fluency sessions each day. The main concept work has become ratio. In this, we will learn to represent problems using a ‘cross hair’ which enables us to extract the information from a problem and set it out clearly. (Look out for it if you come along to the open afternoon on Wednesday.) Once this is in place, we will pick up the bar-model and with that, have everything in place to start solving some of the tougher problems next term.
Jolly exciting.
History
We are beginning to draw together the different threads of our WWI studies which has been really interesting. The class looked back over their books and were quite surprised at how much they have learnt.
