This week we have continued writing our stories about Paddington Bear. We have particularly focussed on how we can improve our sentences by adding adjectives and adverbs. We know that an adjective describes a noun and an adverb describes a verb. We know that an adverb or adverbial phrase can answer ‘Where?’ ‘When?’ ‘How?’ and ‘Why?’ For example, ‘Paddington ran’ could become ‘Paddington ran through the dark, spooky forest because he was being chased by a monster!’ Can you give use some simple sentences to improve at home?
In maths we have been looking at counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10.When counting in steps of 2 and 5 we start from 0 or a multiple of that number and when we count in 10s we count on and back from any number. We have used cubes, diennes and bead strings to count on and back. Can you create some sequences for us to finish? E.g. 15, 20, 25, ___, ____
In science we have continued to look at different materials and their properties. We predicted and then tested whether different objects would float or sink. We then watched a video about why different objects float or sink. We learned words such as ‘particles’ and ‘density’. We also looked at whether an object could be made to float by changing its shape.
In Geography we looked at the pictures of the places we’d seen on our walk round the village and ordered them from nearest to school to furthest to school. We also looked at some old pictures of different buildings in Crowmarsh and thought about how they have changed.
In ICT we looked at Crowmarsh Village on Google Maps to see if we could spot some of the places we’d seen on our walk. We also looked at our routes to school. We then tried to find other buildings in the village to add to our map of Crowmarsh.
