Week 6 (06/10/2014)

This week Class Three children have written their own stories. They have focused on using description about the setting and the five senses to describe the atmosphere of the setting. Here is a preview of some shared writing the children created as a class earlier on in the week ‘Class 3’s shared writing – writing a descriptive paragraph about the setting It was early in the morning and the woods were cold and misty. In the mist I could see a small shadow. I could see in the distance the shadowy trees swaying. There was a faint scuttling behind me. I could hear twigs snapping in the distance, crunchy leaves and the squelching of mud.’

In Science we are still looking at our topic of being healthy. We used the netbooks to research information about the different food types. Children worked on their note-taking skills and jotted down key points about each food group and bullet pointed this in their Science books. If you would like to have a little look yourself here is the website we used:

The following websites have some really interesting clips about each food group in more detail:

Finally, for our topic we used clay to create ‘caveman’ themed artwork. The children each had a slab of clay that they squashed (not rolled) to create an authentic rocklike surface. Then using sharp pencils they engraved the outline of animals into the clay and added symbols around the outside. As a class we did a lot of talk around what the symbols might mean and why the cavemen used to draw pictures and symbols to communicate.
