Week 6 (06/10/2014)

In Class Two we have had great fun making silly vegetable characters by drawing funny faces on real vegetables and attaching googly eyes. We worked in groups of four to create mini-plays and performed them to the rest of the class. We have also performed our plays to the children in Class R and Class One.

Ask your child to tell you what their play was about and also ask if they can remember what any of the other plays were about. There were seven in total ( Breakfast, dinner, pet shop, beach, picnic, rainy walk and ice-cream parlour )

This was such a fun activity where all the children surprised me with their inventiveness, imagination and increased confidence.

We have also created some fantastic group artwork by using autumn leaves that look amazing at the moment. If you are out for a windy autumn walk this weekend collect some leaves, twigs and natural bits and pieces and have a go.

In our maths lessons we are working on addition and subtraction.

Adding number bonds to make 10 or 20.

Adding three numbers ( where two of the numbers = 10   Eg. 8 + 4 + 2 = ?  )

Subtracting single digit numbers and relating things we know to things we don’t know.

Eg.   7  –  2 =   5

27 –  2 =  25

227 –  2  =  225

Lots of pupils worked out that 2227 – 2 = 2225

It is all a matter of spotting and understanding the pattern.

Have a go and bring some of your work into school to share with the class.

Have a great weekend.
