As we race towards the end of term, year 1 have continued to put their best efforts into everything they do. We were so proud of them for performing their class assembly so brilliantly – they’ve received lots of glowing comments from other staff and children! It was lovely to have so many parents there watching – thank you for coming.
Out maths work this week has been largely practical. We created tally charts about the types of house we live in, then made human bar graphs on the field before drawing our own graphs on squared paper. We discovered that it is a lot harder to draw a graph than it looks, especially when the rulers don’t behave themselves!! Later in the week we carried out investigations and discussed what we had found out.
On Tuesday we went for a walk around the village to look at the types of houses and other buildings. We discussed how to we could tell whether a building is old or new. Mr Hannigan told us lots of interesting facts about some of the buildings – ask us which is the oldest building in the village and which is the oldest inhabited building. Did you know that before our school was built there were two earlier school buildings in the village? (Both are now houses – ask us to point them out.)
Wednesday was hand-up morning and once again the children came back excited about their new class and new teacher.
