We’ve been learning how to find fractions of a whole number, such as “Find 10/12 of 1320”.
To arrive at the answer we need to draw a bar model to help us visual what we are doing.
Step 1 = 1320 divided by 12 (the bottom number on the fraction which is called the denominator)
Step 2 = we complete the bar model by putting in our answer in the 12 boxes below our “whole” row. We are told how many boxes to put under our “whole” by denominator.
This shows us that 1320 divided by 12 = 110.
Step 3 = Now we multiply 110 by 10 (the top number on the fraction which is called the numerator)
Step 4 = Put your answer (110×10=1100)
We have also explored multiplying fractions by a whole number such as 3 x ½ = 1½ (3/2 = 1/2 +1/2 + ½)

We have been looking at poetry with an oceanic theme and are planning to write our own performance poems, which need to be linked to Kensuke’s Kingdom. But we need to focus on:
- Descriptive writing – 5 senses, similes, metaphors and personification.
- Expression
- Atmosphere
- Vocabulary – adjectives, adverbs and nouns
- Rhythm
Guided Reading
We read together Chapter 2 of Kensuke’s Kingdom. Some of us read a page aloud to the whole class.
Some people got stuck on the meaning of talisman; adamant; conspiracy; longitude and latitude but we talked about each word
Geography
In groups we have been making a PowerPoint presentation on rivers. We have each got a different river of the world to research. We have started to present them to the class; we were marked out of 10. Were they engaging? How did they look? Have I included specific features of that river?
