This week we have been telling and writing stories set in Victorian London. First we looked at some pictures to generate our characters and setting then we mapped out our story on strips of paper. Using our story maps, we then told our stories to a partner making sure we linked our ideas in interesting ways, included plenty of description and used good expression. Later in the week we planned and wrote our stories ensuring that we had a clear beginning, middle and ending.
In maths we have been learning about fractions. We know that a half is one of 2 equal parts and that a quarter is one of 4 equal parts. We investigated how many different ways a piece of paper can be cut in half and shaded fractions of different shapes.
In RE and in collective worship this week, we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We found out that 2017 is the year of the rooster, discovered which animal represented the year we were born and learned about some of the traditions of Chinese New Year.
Our focus in science over the next few weeks will be on seeds and growing plants; we have started to find out about the plants that Victorians might have grown in their gardens and have planted some seeds of our own. Ask us what seeds and plants need in order to grow.
