Which is better book or film? In English this week we watched the very beginning of The Secret Garden film. We used interactive PowerPoint slides to make notes on the similarities and differences between the opening of the film and the book. We then looked at a piece of writing which compared the two, we looked in detail at the structure of the text and at the end of the week we started our own comparative writing.
In Maths, we have been working on addition. We used place value grids with place value counters or picture to solve number sentences such as 7289 + 232 = ?
We were also given some number sentences with incorrect answers and we had to work out where the calculation had gone wrong. E.G. 2829 + 326 = 2145. Is this correct? If it is wrong, why is it wrong? Towards the end of the week we started looking at working towards more formal written column addition.
In Art and Computing, we have now completed the staging and characters for our stop-frame animations. We have also had a go at using the cameras to take photos within the stage. Next week we will be starting to create our animations.
This week in Geography, we thought about places within the UK that are important to us. We chose one place each, some of us chose where our grandparents live whilst others chose somewhere we go on holiday. We then located the place on a map and all of our locations have been pinned to the UK map in the classroom.
