Week 4 (22/09/2014)

Wow! What a busy week!

This week, in English, we have been very creative, designing our own settings and characters in the style of Roald Dahl. We are in the process of planning our Roald Dahl inspired stories to write next week – exciting!

Class 5 made a fantastic effort in dressing up on Tuesday – thank you very much to the parents who helped to create some incredible costumes. We had quite a surprise in ‘Collective Worship’ when two more Roald Dahl characters joined in the fun!

On Wednesday, we visited Wallingford to investigate the human geography. We recorded the type of shops there are and thought carefully about why they are there.  We asked: Who shops in Wallingford? Why do people visit Wallingford? and How have humans changed Wallingford? Thank you very much to Mrs Batt, Mrs Hannigan and Mrs Saunders for accompanying us on this trip!

On Thursday, we had a go at using the Abacus website (www.activelearnprimary.co.uk) for Maths and started to explore some of the place value games. You are more than welcome to continue your Maths learning at home using this website.

On Friday, we had a rather special visit from Giles Andrae, who came to share with us his new book, followed by a trip to St. Mary’s Church for our Harvest Festival. We performed Harvest Samba beautifully!

Next week will be a little bit more relaxed, although it is Book Fair week and individual school photos are being taken on Friday 3rd October. We’re moving on to decimals, percentages and their equivalence to fractions in Maths and story writing in English.

Have a wonderful weekend!
