This week in Year 3 we have been busy looking at Stone Age shelters and structures. We looked at how people used to live in caves, then small tepee like tents, wooden houses and finally stone houses. We even had a go at making our own paper structures. Each group had a challenge to make a free standing tower. Next week we will have a go at making our own Stone Age Structures.
In Maths this week the focus has been on adding together two digit numbers which do not have ‘friendly numbers or number bonds to help us.’ We have been using partitioning to make this easier. E.g. Instead if doing 33 + 45 we can split the numbers up into tens and units. This makes it much more manageable.
E.g. 33 + 45 30 + 40 = 70 3 + 5 = 8 70 + 8 = 78
Reminder: The online homework was just a general taster to see which children were able to access the game at home. When used next time it will be pitched at different abilities to suit your child’s needs.
Class three are still looking at stories with a familiar setting. They have become experts in detecting the ‘setting’ and ‘atmosphere’ of a story and explaining why a story might be scary, happy etc. As a class we wrote an exciting paragraph to continue a story we have been focusing on. Next week they will plan and write their own stories.
Class 3’s shared writing: Then suddenly… A light flickered on, flashing like a car’s indicator. Squinting their eyes as tight as a rubber band, the mice saw a flash as bright as fire. Each footstep was louder than a firework exploding. It was so loud that the sugar mountain collapsed. The mice were so petrified they nearly collapsed themselves.
