Week 4 (16/03/2015)

Literacy/ART

At the start of this week we started doing a plan of a description about an old man’s face and using thesauruses so we can look up different words such as: if you went to crashing and found stampeding you would go and look up stampeding and look for other words like marching or charging.

At the end of last week Year 6 combined some beautiful landscape artwork with some amazing pieces of metaphorical work from Wind by Ted Hughes, here are some examples:

Maths

Pie charts are now a key part of our classroom as we have been working on them from last Monday. Pie charts are tricky to draw as you have to find out what percent of 360o the number is. We have also been working on word problems that have been on the interactive whiteboard.

Tag rugby tournament

On Wednesday some children from Year 5 and 6 went to a tag rugby tournament in Wallingford at the Hithercroft. We came 2nd and really enjoyed it. Our first game against Saint Lawrence we won convincingly, thanks to tries by Arthur (2) Bonnie and Max with a result of 4-1. Our next game against Saint John’s also went well with a score of 3-0. Congrats to Bonnie and Toby (2) our next game was against Benson and unfortunately we lost this one 3-2 despite the tries by Max and Bonnie. Penultimately we played Brightwell and this time drew thanks to an unlucky decision for one of their tries. But Jack, Neo and Toby scored. Finally our game against Benson b; we won 3-0. Well done to Toby, Max and Jade. Overall we really enjoyed it and the whole team did well.
