Firstly, thank you so much for everybody being so enthusiastic about our new homework grids. We have already had some incredible pieces come in. I am very impressed with the quality of work that is coming in. All homework should be linked to something we have been learning in class. Over the last two weeks in Maths we have been focusing on multiplication and the different methods we can use to work out a multiplication sum.

We have also looked at the grid method to break down tricky multiplication sums, using sums they know.
Here is an example. We first made the sums using apparatus to clearly show the process happening to the numbers.

Children then drew the multiplication sum to speed up the process, and finally used digits to represent the sum.

In English we are continuing to look at the book ‘Fog Island.’ This book will be used throughout the term to inspire our writing. Last week the children wrote a story based on some of our initial ideas about the book (before we had even read the first page). This week we have focussed on writing a description of the eerie island. The focus was on describing the five senses, and using metaphors and similes to describe the setting.

An exciting visitor paid us a visit on Wednesday. Emily has previously worked in school, but came back to share her many volunteer experiences in India. She was keen to share her knowledge of the country including clothing, music and school life with the children.
