Week 3 (27/04/2015)

Over the last two weeks we have been looking closely at the traditional tale ‘The Three Billy Goats gruff.’ The class had fun retelling the story, acting it out, hot seating the characters and interviewing the troll. They then wrote a recount from the troll’s point of view. I have been really impressed with the children’s writing and their discussions when ‘polishing’ their work to make it even better.

In Maths this week we have been looking at data handling. The class have been collecting data in tally charts and turning this information into bar charts. Next week we will look at a range of other graphs as well as recapping methods for adding, subtracting, multiplying and division in preparation for SATs week.

We were very lucky on Tuesday to have a German puppet production to come to our school. Incredibly, it was just one man running the show – he was able to operate the life size puppets, tell the story and get the whole school to participate along the way. It was incredibly entertaining so I am sure you have already heard lots about it.

Our topic in Science this term is ‘Rocks, Fossils and Soils.’ Yesterday we were investigating how hard/soft different rocks were. You would be surprised how much fun children can have whilst inspecting rocks.

Class trip
Next Wednesday Class Three will be going on a trip to the Harcourt Arboretum. We will be exploring nature. Please make sure you provide your child with a packed lunch and plastic water bottle in a back pack or bag they can carry for the day.
