Dear Parents/Carers,
This week we started our week by sharing Jack and the beanstalk. We talked about the story and created our own story board. The children then retold the story using puppets using the story board to help them as well as create role-play scenes to share their understanding of the story. The children developed ideas using their imagination, travelled to the top of the beanstalk and discussed what was through the clouds. We ended the week by reading ‘Jim and the beanstalk’. Next week the children will begin to share ideas for their own versions of this familiar story.
In Maths the children have been learning to subtract. We have also used the language less, and taking away so that the children begin to understand different mathematical language for this process. The children have been encouraged to talk about how they have solved their answers. You could support at home by practicing recognising numerals 15-20 and asking the children to share reasons for their answers.
In phonics the children have been recapping and practising letters and sounds that they are not as familiar with and applying them in their writing. The children have been working really hard on their letter formation this week. You will find a letter formation card in your child’s book bag. You could use this to support them with writing letters.
