Week 3 (25/04/2016)

This week we have looked at some stories that are set in space. We listened to the story ‘Whatever Next’. This is a story about a bear that goes into space in a rocket made of cardboard boxes. We then watched a short story called ‘The way home’. In this story we saw a little boy, who finds a rocket and travels to the moon. The story had no words so we had to watch very carefully to see what was happening. We then compared and contrasted the two stories. Later in the week we had a go at storyboarding ‘The way back home’, drawing the pictures to show what happened in each part of the story. We then used our storyboard to create our own stories, using great ‘wow’ words to make it interesting for the reader.

In maths this week we have been continuing to practise our number bonds to 10. We then looked at the link between our pairs to 10 and pairs to 20. We realised that there was a pattern. If 2+8 =10, then 2+18 =20. We also had a think about the taking away sums we could do. If 13 + 7= 20, then 20 -13= 7.

In our art lesson we looked at the different planets. We then had a go at designing our own planet and the different creatures that might live on them. There were some very interesting creatures!

TASK:  Choose a task from the take away homework menu. Your child has a copy of this in the front of their new homework book. There is also a copy on the Class 1 Blog. The take away menu will change each term, (not each week as written last week, sorry!)
