In English this week Year 3 have been writing letters to Santa and bullies (as part of anti-bullying week last week). The children’s focus was to use all of the key features of a letter in their writing. We have also learnt more about verbs and nouns (common and proper nouns) and how they are used in a sentence. Ask your child to point out some proper nouns (London/Oxford/Mrs Barton/Wallingford etc.) or common nouns (chair/pen/laptop etc.) The whole class were excellent at spotting verbs, even in different tenses (ran/run/running/jump/jumped/jumping).
Maths this week has covered a wealth of topics. We started by recapping on 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. Year 3 then learnt how to draw number lines accurately and plot numbers between multiples of 5 and 10 by estimating. This is tricky as children must measure how much space they have to draw a line, separate this into even divisions and then draw the lines accurately with a ruler. We spent a few lessons on this. Finally, today we worked on a few mental maths skills such as adding simple 3 digit numbers and rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.
Due to our busy schedule with the Christmas play rehearsals many lessons in the afternoon have been pushed off the timetable. To ensure children do not miss out on any learning there will be Art/Science/History etc. whole afternoons in the run up to Christmas. This will allow us some quality time to do all the really fun and practical activities.
Trip: There will be a class trip on Friday 5th December to Wallingford library to help children choose books pitched at their ability and interest. This is aimed to support children in finding books they enjoy.
