This week in English we have been continuing to read ‘How to Live Forever’. We have been looking closely at the text and the illustrations so that we can use evidence when explaining our ideas. In our writing we have continued to explore the use of adverbs within our sentences and some of us have been thinking carefully about how to check and edit our work. This week we started to plan and write our own newspaper reports based around the missing book. We thought about the success criteria and we been working hard to apply our knowledge of newspaper features.
In maths this week we completed our work multiplying numbers by 10 or 100 and then moved on to dividing numbers by 10 and 100. We learnt how when we divide a number by 10, the digits all move one place down the place value grid. Ask us to multiply or divide whole numbers by 10 or 100 (the answer needs to be a whole number.)
On Monday we were involved in a webinar along with year 5 and 6 which was hosted by Dawn Childs, Director of Engineering for the Merlin group. She talked about her job as an engineer and inspired us to think about engineering. Classes 4, 5 and 6 will be involved in an engineering project later in the term – more information to follow.
In geography, we recapped where we live and identified villages, towns and cities on Google Earth. Then we looked at some pictures of an unknown location. In groups we discussed which continent we thought the location was on and gave reasons to justify our ideas. Once we had concluded that the continent was Asia, we then considered which country we could be in. Our mystery country was China! Over the next few weeks we will be learning about a remote village in China and comparing this location to Crowmarsh.
