Week 2 (10/11/2014)

This week we wrote recounts about the exciting alien spaceship crash that took place last week.  We included time connectives such as first, next and then to sequence our ideas.  On Tuesday, we received a letter, covered in green gooey fingerprints, which had been written by the alien. His name was Sparkeep and he had been hiding in Mr Hannigan’s cupboard since the crash. We wrote letters back to him to let him know we were friendly and to ask questions about him and his planet.  In his cupboard, on Wednesday, Mr Hannigan found a letter that Sparkeep had written back to us and all of our letters covered in alien finger prints!!!  Later in the week we wrote our own alien stories.

In maths, we have been using positional language such as below, above, in front, behind, near, far, under, left and right.  It would be helpful if the children could practise using this vocabulary to describe things at home, in particular left and right.  We have also been measuring and comparing lengths using objects and rulers.

TASK:  Who can practise their positional vocabulary by playing games such as ‘Simon Says’? (E.g ‘Simon Says put your left hand on your head’ , ‘Simon says put your right foot in front of your left foot.’)  Parents  – write a note in reading diaries if you want to let us know how your child got on.
