Week 2 (08/06/2015)

The highlight of our week has been the fantastic trip to Oxford Castle. We were lucky with the weather and had a great time finding out more about castles.  In our first workshop we learned the story of Stephen and Matilda, sequenced it and then acted it out.  We then got to look at medieval objects from the castle, discovering what they were used for and drawing or describing them.  Ask us to tell you about the castle smells too! Finally we had a tour of St George’s Tower, climbing up a steep spiral staircase to the very top!

Earlier in the week we wrote castle poems and enjoyed performing one called ‘The Hairy Scary Castle’!  We also wrote recounts about our trip, remembering to use time connectives to sequence our ideas.

In maths we have been learning about multiplication being ‘lots of’ or ‘groups of’ something and using our counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to help us.

TASK:  Who can write their own version of the story of Stephen and Matilda?

Or, who can write a letter to Oxford Castle thanking them for our trip and explaining what you enjoyed/learned while we were there?
