It was good to hear that so many children have been out and about walking in the countryside and enjoying the autumn leaves during half term.
Science, design and technology
Using sticks that I collected from my own woodland walk, the children worked in groups to make a den for our class bear. They talked through their ideas to solve problems and build a frame for the bear’s den. Stones were used to keep the main frame stable and leaves were used to make a comfy bed for the bear.
We then carried out a science investigation to see which material would make the most waterproof and windproof cover for the den. We tested seven different materials by using a watering can to pour water over each material sample.
There was lots of thoughtful discussion and reasoning about the different materials before choosing the most suitable one.
We have been learning about bears, what they look like, how they live and where they like to live. In relation to this we have been reading and retelling the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
In maths we have been extending our knowledge of bar models!
