Week 1 (22/02/2016)

This week we have started our new topic, ‘Roars, Claws and Animals Galore.’ We have been looking at dinosaurs and finding out about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We looked at the different features of recipes, including ‘bossy verbs’, ingredients and ‘what you will need’. We have written our own recipes for meals for a dinosaur. Please ask us about them, there were some very interesting choices! Did you know that carnivorous dinosaurs liked to eat lizards and turtles? Herbivores ate leaves from many different trees, but not grass, as grass hadn’t evolved by then.

In Maths we have been recognising odd and even numbers up to 100, paying close to the units digit. We have also been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Please help us to practise at home, especially the 5s as these are quite tricky! We have also begun looking at fractions of shapes. We can find a ¼ ½ and ¾ of a shape and are beginning to recognise that 2 halves and 4 quarters is a ‘whole’ and that 2 quarters is the same as a half.

In art we used a step by step instructional video to help us to draw a stegosaurus. We then coloured the stegosaurus any way we wanted to – as nobody actually knows what colour they were!

TASK:  Fraction worksheet – this has been put into your child’s bookbag.

Have a lovely weekend
