Week 1 (22/02/2016)

Picasso – Art – This week we have been learning about the Spanish artist Picasso. We learnt some funny and interesting facts about him. When he was born the midwife thought he was dead at first but then something happened! (Can your child remember what happened?) We learnt about Picasso’s different painting periods such as his Blue period, Rose Period and Cubism amongst many. Do you know or can you remember how many names he had? We had a go at drawing a Picasso style picture by combining a face drawn from the front combined with one from the side.

Fractions – We have been learning about halves, quarters and thirds. We used dice to play a game in pairs to help us learn the focus fractions. It was a fun game to play and by the end of lesson most of us felt more confident. We have also been learning how to find out a fraction of a number, which is quite tricky!

Homework task:  ( you might need some adult help )  What is…

½ of 10     ½ of 8      ½ of 14      ½   of 20       ½ of    30       ½  of  50

¼   of 12     ¼   of 8      ¼   of 16      ¼   of 20     ¼   of 28     ¼    of 48

These ones are quite tricky to do.

1/3   of 3             1/3   of 9                1/3   of 12              1/3 of   30

Drawing a picture can be very helpful.
