Welcome back! I hope that you all had a lovely Easter break.
In English this week we have started reading ‘The Wolves in the Walls’ by Neil Gaiman. We have been thinking very carefully about what we know about the characters from the text as well as what the pictures tell us. We have been looking closely at Lucy and considering how she might be feeling. Our grammar work this week has focussed on prepositional phrases as adjectives. We have learnt what a preposition is and we have started to explore how these sentences can be diagrammed. Next week we will be writing our own stories where we will be having a go at including prepositional phrases.
In maths we have been continuing with our fractions work and we have been learning about equivalent fractions. We explored equivalent fractions using practical equipment and then we looked at how we could pictorially show equivalent fractions. We then moved on to being able to identify equivalent fractions by using mathematical calculations Next week we will finish this work and then move on to looking at fractions that are greater than 1.
Today we started our new history topic where are learning about the history of medicine. We looked at the medical understanding that people living in prehistoric and ancient times had. We learnt that doctors had very little knowledge about the human body and therefore had no way of accurately diagnosing diseases. We learnt that herbal remedies were very popular during this time period and we thought about what different herbs were used to treat. So then we had a go at creating our own herbal remedies to treat something like a cold or tiredness (as the Romans would have needed during battle!)
