Week 1 (16/4/18)

In English and guided reading this week we have started to read ‘Stig of the Dump’ by Clive King. We have been thinking about Stig and Barney, we have investigated their characters and made comparisons between them. Towards the end of the week, we started to look at persuasive writing, focusing on estate agent information sheets. We looked at the features of this style of writing and next week we will be creating our own adverts aiming to persuade someone to buy Stig’s cave!

In maths, we have been learning the formal, expanded method for multiplication. We started off thinking about how calculations could be represented using dienes or place value counters and then we moved onto the written method. We have also been continuing to rehearse dividing numbers by 10 and 100 to include decimals e.g. 45 ÷ 10 = 4.5

On Monday we started our history topic. We looked at pictures of Roman artefacts and we wrote questions that we could ask about the object in order to give us more information about not only the item but also Roman life. We also thought about what we would like to learn during this topic. On Friday, we started our new Computing work in which we will be learning how to create and program a maze game in Scratch.

A new takeaway homework grid should have come home this week. Due to changes in topic, please can all children now work from the new grid.
