Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Easter.
This week we have been Spring Nature Detectives. We discussed and wrote about the things that happen in spring, how the weather changes and what grows or is born. We looked at flowering plants and were able to label the main parts, explaining what their purpose is. Later in the week we also identified and sorted a range of common flowers or plants.
Retracing the route from our Autumn and Winter walks, we wandered around the village and recreation ground looking what had changed. Among other things we spotted frogspawn, lots of new buds, butterflies, bees and blossom. Ask us what other signs of spring we found. Back at school we continued our tree study – looking at how one particular tree on our field has changed across the seasons.
In Maths we have been concentrating on our number pairs to 10 (which we need to learn by heart) and the subtraction facts related to those pairs. We have been using our number bonds to add two small numbers. For example, when solving 8 + 5 we can make 10 first by adding 2 of the 5 and then adding the remaining 3, giving us 1 whole ten and 3 extra ones (13).
Homework: This term we are introducing a new homework format across the school. Your child will bring this home in their book bag next week. We will also upload it to our class page.
