Welcome back. I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday.
Our first week back has been shorter than usual due to the inset day on Monday so hopefully that helped everyone ease back in to the school routine.
In Maths this week we have been learning about time. Some children are still finding how to tell the time tricky. This is a common concept that some children (and adults) struggle to get their heads around. The best way to practise this skill is by doing it daily. In class we have been focusing on analogue time and doing ‘time checks’ throughout the day. Children are asked to make the time on smaller clocks and work out what time it is. We have also been working out the time in x amount of minutes e.g. how long until break. Next week we will continue to look at time; focusing more on digital time and time related word problems.
In English we have been finishing our dragon fact files from last term. We are currently in the process of typing them up before they go in our own version of the ‘Book of Dragons.’ Once these are finished we will be looking at a new book, called ‘Fog Island’ by Tomi Unguri, to inspire us in our writing.
We have had our final show and tells to do with last terms topic so will now be focusing on The Tudors in History and Plants in Science.
Homework – We are changing our approach to homework across the school to make it more meaningful. This will be explained in class to the children on Friday and they will have a whole week (Friday to Friday) to complete the work. This means there will be no homework coming home on Monday, however reading and times table practice are always encouraged. There will also continue to be an optional maths homework should children wish to take it.
