This week we were lucky enough to have a visitor called Dr Moorhouse who is an ecologist and a children’s author. He talked about water voles, explaining about their habitat, their diet and how he used his knowledge of water voles to write children’s books that featured them. We watched a video that showed Dr Moorhouse catching a water vole to weigh it and micro-chip it before letting it go back into the river.
We pretended that we were that vole, and wrote a short story about our experiences. Before we started writing we looked at our last piece of work and decided what we were going to focus on and try to do better.
In our geography lesson we were learning about manmade and natural features. We watched a Katie Morag video and discussed the features of the island. We got into groups and sorted a pile of pictures into the two groups. We then marked the features on a map.
There is no homework task this week but as from next week all children will be expected to do weekly homework.
Finally, can I just say well done to all the children who have continued to read over the Easter Holiday and thank you to all the parents who have taken the trouble to record it in their children’s reading records. Listening to your child read should not only be a pleasure but is also one of the most valuable things you can do to help your child make good progress.
