Week 1 (02/11/2015)

In Class R the children have been talking about the exciting places they have been and the activities they have done over the half term. The children drew pictures and we discussed what they could do to show/tell more about their picture. The children had different ideas including making sure they put their name on, talking about their pictures and writing labels to tell people more. The children all labelled their pictures using their knowledge of letters and sounds.

On Wednesday we shared the story of ‘The Gun Powder Plot’ and talked about why we have bonfires and fireworks on the 5th of November. The children learnt about splatter painting and splattered on large pieces of paper outside.

In Maths the children have been learning about groups of objects having the same number in the group. We made predictions about how many in a group and then checked by counting them. The children used their knowledge to make two piles that have the same number of objects. You could help at home by asking your children to find and object the same shape, colour, size or ask them to find a group with the same number of objects.

In Phonics the children have been recapping the letters and sounds that they have learnt so far. The children have been continuing to practise their blending and segmenting and have been learning the tricky words I, the, to, no and no. At home make sure you are sharing stories, reading or playing with flashcards daily with your child to support them with their learning of letters and sounds.

Thank you to all those parents who have returned their slips about parents evening. If you do not yet have an appointment please sign up in an available space on the classroom door. Mrs Conway will be joining Miss Zimmerman during the Wednesday session from 5.00pm-6.30pm and Mrs Bowden will be joining Miss Zimmerman during the Wednesday session from 7.00pm-8.00pm.

Have a lovely weekend.
