The past few weeks we have been focusing a great deal on the ‘Send my Friend to School’ campaign. Across the school, children have been debating and discussing the reason why some children miss out on education. Children from Reception to Year 6 have been learning about the stories of individual children and why they can’t go to school. 2015 is the year that world leaders had said that every child could go to school and still 57 million children ar
e missing out.
This past Friday we invited John Howell MP into school to ask him some of our questions, read him some speeches and to read some of our poems that we had written all about children missing out on school. Some of the older children also watched Malala Yousafzai’s speech to the UN on her sixteenth birthday and discussed the UN Convention of Rights – especially article 28 which states: ” All children have the right to a primary education, which should be free. The Convention places a high value on education. Young people should be encouraged to reach the highest level of education of which they are capable.”

Also, the other week we had NED visit our school. NED stands for; Never Give Up, Encourage Others and Do Your Best. Channing flew in all the way from Florida to deliver her inspirational message about how to be a Champion. The lesson was demonstrated through a range of amazing Yo-Yo tricks and magic tricks…..the children really were amazed and stunned. The story talked about how important ‘attitude’ was and took us through the story of Ned, who didn’t have the right ‘attitude’ and how he finally came to making the right decisions. The Yo-Yos were a great illustration of how if we put in the practice we can master new concepts and ‘tricks’. So, children understood even more the importance of a ‘growth-mindset’ and what we can really achieve with effort and hard work!
