Week 4 (12/3/18)

English

I think this has been a fantastic week for writing. We are currently working on an extended piece of narrative which ultimately will read more like an opening chapter to a story. The quality so far has been outstanding as if the whole class have really taken their compositions up a notch. There seems to be a buzz of confidence around the room. I had streams of children waiting to show me their work at lunch time today which spoke volumes about where they are at. I’m really excited to see how this piece of work develops. I think the main issue will be writing stamina and finding ways to keep the quality going over such a developed piece.

Maths

This week we have moved towards geometry in which we are looking at several elements. Fundamentally, we are comparing different 2D shapes by their properties which means that we will be studying, perimeter, area, angles (to an extent) alongside more common elements such as dimensions, parallel and adjacent sides.

Meanwhile the arithmetic and problem solving sessions continue to keep basic calculations developing.
