This week we have continued with our new topic ‘A village in India’. We have begun finding out what life is like in parts of India. We have been finding out facts about India, including where it is, what the capital city is, what the climate is like and what food they eat there. We have also looked at an Indian street scene and written sentences to describe it. We are trying hard to use interesting adjectives and start our sentences in different ways. We have particularly focussed on trying to use prepositions at the beginning of our sentences and using conjunctions to join our ideas within sentences.
In maths we have been continuing to look at fractions. We have looked at unit fractions (any fraction where the numerator is 1) and non-unit fractions (where the numerator is anything other than 1). We have been trying to solve problems such as ‘If Henry has 1/3 of 12 sweets, Emma has ½ of 14 sweets and Joe has ¼ of 20 sweets, who has the most sweets?’ We know that we can draw pictures to help us solve these problems.
We have also been learning to tell the time this week. We know that the big hand is the minute hand and the small hand is the hour hand. We have begun to understand that the big hand moves round the clock each minute, and that in between each number on the clock there are 5 minutes. We have practised telling the time at o’clock, half past quarter past and quarter to, and had a go at drawing the hands on the clock to show these times.
In science we have begun to look at seed dispersal. We had a go at making our own sycamore seeds to see how they travel
In art we have been busy making surprises. Please do check in our book bags if we forget to get them out on Sunday!
