This week in our English lessons we have been focussing on grammar. In particular, we have looked at when we need to use capital letters, different types of sentences – including statements, commands, questions and exclamations, adverbs and noun phrases. We then wrote our own bonfire night poems using adverbs and noun phrases.
In maths we have been looking at measuring, with a particular focus on length and height. We have been trying to make sensible estimates before we measure. We know how to carefully line up our rulers with the end of an object to ensure that we are measuring accurately. We have looked at the different equipment we can use to measure. We know that it would be easier to measure the playground with a trundle wheel, for example, rather than trying to use a ruler. We have also been comparing different units of measure. We know that a mm < cm, cm < m and m < km. Can you give us some different measurements to compare? For example, 3m > 36cm, true or false? You could also give us 4 or 5 measurements to order from smallest to biggest. E.g. 7m, 170cm, 70mm, 17cm, 7mm
In our Topic work we have been finding out about the aftermath of The Great Fire of London. We learnt that the task of getting London rebuilt was given to a committee of six men, including Christopher Wren. Their role was to manage surveys of ruined properties and consider how they were going to rebuild. We found out that in the first 3 years 3000 houses were built, but rebuilding London was a long and onerous task. ‘We learnt that they rebuilt London.’ (Pheobe K) ‘We found out that they made the streets of London cleaner and safer.’ (Imogen and Finlay)
In art we have created firework pictures for a display in the KS1 corridor. We’ll let you know when it’s finished so you can come in and see our super work.
