Week 2 (12/09/2016)

It was lovely to meet so many parents this week at the curriculum talk on Thursday after school. Thank you to those who have offered to listen to children read in school, such a valuable contribution to school life.

This week in our maths lessons, we have been developing our ability to count numbers accurately by counting a selection of objects.  We decided to count them in groups of 10 to make it easier to recount and check our numbers.

This is something you could do at home; how many would be one more or one less?

Within our topic ’The Beach’, we have been learning about maps and where to locate beaches. We also watched a video about Barnaby Bear at the beach and have made posters about safety on the beach. We learnt about when it is safe to swim in the sea and what to do if you get into trouble.

Here are some questions you could ask your children:

  • Can you swim in the sea if the red flags are flying?
  • Can you swim in the sea between the two yellow and red flags?
  • What number should you call if you need the coastguard?

Next week we will be learning about plants and animals associated with the sea.
