Week 2 (18/04/2016)

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Can we first thank the parents/carers that joined us on our ‘working party’ day last Saturday. You may have noticed a few additions to the outdoor area as well as it generally looking tidy. They all worked very hard in the pouring rain so thank you so much for your help and support.

This week the children have begun their theme of ‘growing’ which they decided on at the end of last term. We started the week by sharing the story ‘Ten Seeds’. We talked about what was happening to the seeds in the story and talked about how many were left each time. On Tuesday the children gave verbal instructions for planting a sunflower seed. During the week they planted their own sunflower seeds and wrote instructions ‘How to plant a sunflower seed.’  The children talked about what plants need to grow and started an experiment to find out if cress can still grow without water and/or sun.

In Maths, the children have been continuing to practise their adding. They have been trying to find the answers using the number line and we have talked about how they found their answers. The children have been practising recognising their numerals from ten to twenty.

The children have been extremely interested in worms during Independent Learning Time so this week we set up our own wormery, now we can watch the worms at work burrowing into the ground.

Remember to keep reading at home every day and practise your flashcards to support with letters and sounds.

Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Zimmerman and Mrs Bowden
