This term we are focusing on ‘Being a Leader and Not a Follower’.
We talk a great deal about this in our school – related to our learning and us as leaders in the playground, leaders of character, leaders of manners, and the list could go on and on.
It incorporates so many aspects of what we do in school. It is about teaching children to stand up for what is right, to take a challenge in the classroom showing bravery and fortitude, learning from mistakes and being proud of them and encouraging others to truly be the best they can be. Being a leader is about being ‘unique’, which we all are, but having enough resilience to always stand apart from the crowd while having integrity and always doing what is right even though it may be the more difficult thing to do.
Today in Collective Worship we began with the video below. We then talked about all the key themes that arose and the children quickly talked about key values we always refer to: resilience, integrity, perseverance, bounce-back-ability, fortitude. Clearly, the children have these concepts firmly embedded, so now, as I told them, their challenge is to really put them into practice with everything that they set out to do.
