PE
This week the children have had a House Gymnastics Competition where they had to demonstrate the routines to the whole class. Mr Shorter marked their routines which resulted in 1st and 3rd place being awarded to the Edwardians and 2nd place went to the Tudors. Well done Class 5! Here is a video of one of the routines.
The children also experienced Orienteering for the first time. Twenty-six markers had been hidden around the school grounds for them to locate. They were given one minute to copy the marker positions down on to their blank map then set off in pairs to locate them. Once a marker had been found they had to record the letter that was on the marker so when they arrived back at base they could decode their message. The top two house teams results were counted which resulted in a win for the Georgians, second for the Tudors, third for the Victorians and fourth for the Edwardians. It has been great to see the children building on their teamwork skills. Here are some photos of Class 5 in action:

Maths
Building on their Place Value skills Class 5 moved on to Adding and Subtracting decimals. They tried different methods to help them calculate the answers. These ranged from using Dienes blocks and plasticine on whiteboards, using a Number Line Leap Frog method and Column Method.
English
The children have continued with their 500 Word Challenge pieces. Mrs Barlow took them through Character Description, Setting Description and Action Writing. They built up a store of sentences and paragraphs to use in their writers journals and at the end of the week began work on their final piece. Art
This week the children were given some Georges Seurat paintings to analyse. They had to look at the styles and techniques he had used to help compile ideas for their own artwork.
Homework
Class 5 have been sent home with Maths packs to dip into as and when they have a spare moment. Try and attempt a little of each page but don’t worry about completing every single task.
Topic homework has not been set, however if the children wish to pick a task to complete they are more than welcome to.
