In our English lessons we have focused on recount writing and have been enjoying a book by Anne Fine, The Diary of a Killer Cat. Tuffy the cat is always getting into trouble because he brings dead animals into the house.
We pretended to be Tuffy and wrote diary entries to recount all the happenings of the day. We were writing in the first person which means that we had to use words like I, me, my and mine and we had to make sure we were writing in the past tense.
We have been learning about Samuel Pepys who wrote a secret diary during the Great Fire of London. (Ask your child to tell you what he buried in his garden to keep it safe during the fire)
We talked about the things we would bury to keep them safe. We wrote a list and put it in a treasure chest. Not sure it will get buried though!
With much excitement we have made a good start on our Tudor houses, they are looking good but are lacking a roof at the moment! Hopefully we will have them finished soon.
In maths we have been rounding numbers to the nearest ten. There is a rule to follow when rounding numbers; if you remember it you will be able to round these numbers to the nearest ten.
