ENGLISH
In English we have been expanding sentences by using: expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, adverbial phrases, similes, adjectives and powerful verbs. Here are a few examples.
- It is night.
- The night fell on the trees.
- Darkness fell on the trees, like a black blanket covering the sky.
- At the last crack of day, darkness fell on the trees, like a black blanket covering the sky.
- At the last crack of day, deep in the forest, darkness shrouded the forest like a black blanket covering the sky, consuming everything in its path.
Here is one more.
- Jub walked through the forest.
- Jub walked through the forest courageously.
- Courageously, Jub scampered through the crooked old trees.
MATHS
In Maths we have been learning about factors and HCF (highest common factor) e.g.
70:1, 70, 2, 35, 5, 14, 7, 10
28:1, 28, 2, 14, 7, 4 HCF=14

65:1, 65, 5, 13 HCF=5
HISTORY
In history we have been learning about Viking towns and villages. We learnt that the endings meant what they were for.
-thorpe: secondary settlement (Copthorpe)
-thwaite: originally thveit, woodland clearing (Slaithwaite)
-toft: site of a house or a building (Langtoft)
-keld: spring (Threkeld)
-ness: promontory or headland (Skegness)
-by: farmstead, settlement, village (Selby, Whitby)
-kirk: originally kirkja, meaning church (Ormskirk)
