This week we have finished our ‘Stone Age boy’ spin off story ‘When The Boy Met Om.’ The whole class have participated in writing sections, sometimes as part of a group, individually or whole class shared writing. The children will be able to read during quiet reading time and of course share it when parents are in. They are really proud of their work and how professional their writing is. ‘I think we have thought of better sentences than the proper author,’ as one child put it. We have continued our Stone Age theme in Art and History. This week we made some of our own cave paintings using earthy coloured chalk. Each child also made their own hand impression after we looked at lots of examples found in Stone Age caves found around the world.

Maths
In maths this week we have been focusing on multiplication and the reverse sum in division. When looking at 24 divided by 4 we used the phrase ‘how many 4s fit into 24.’ This helped the children remember we could use our multiplication knowledge to answer the sum. We then counted up in lots of 4s until we got to 24. The children used their fingers and number squares to help them keep track of how many 4s.
Visitor
We had a special visitor in school this week which the children were really excited about. Elizabeth (a headteacher from Masekane – South Africa) came into school to experience life at Crowmarsh Primary School. She taught some of the children special games during break time and came into Class Three to teach us how to count up to ten. It was quite tricky as the words weren’t always pronounced phonetically like they are in English. Class Three also learnt how to greet their friends and ‘mama’ and ‘baba’ (parents).
