Last week the children started to learn that to find a total they need to count the number of objects altogether. They counted the different sides of a domino and talked about how many dots it had altogether. We talked about non-fiction text and talked about how they can tell us more information. We looked at the contents page to find out more information about the moon. The children started their rehearsals in the hall space for the Nativity. Their confidence is developing and they are all enthusiastic about what they need to do.
This week the children have started to think about stars in space. We sang the rhyme ‘twinkle, twinkle Christmas star’ and looked at different pictures of stars. They have been learning about describing and thought of words to describe the different stars. The children all made their own ‘Christmas star’ and shared a sentence to describe it. In maths the children have been starting to learn the language used for addition and are being encouraged to find the correct groups themselves when solving a number sentence. It would help at home if they practice counting on a given number from any number between one and ten. Next week in Mathematics we will be learning to compare the weight of parcels. In Literacy, the children will be looking at Christmas cards and learning about how to write a greeting. The children will create their own Christmas card ready to use their knowledge of letters and sounds to write the card closer to Christmas. On Monday we will start to share small books that tell the Christmas story as we talk about the time of advent.
