On Monday the children shared all their exciting experiences of fireworks, the children watched a clip of fireworks Miss Zimmerman had been seen. The children all talked about where they had been the colours and sounds of the fireworks they saw.
In Maths this week the children have been talking about ways to find out how many we have altogether in two groups. The children talked about counting all of the objects in the two groups. The children practised using objects to count; we then talked about different ways we can find out how many altogether. The children counting the given objects used their fingers and began to use a number line to work out how many altogether. Please make every opportunity to count objects giving one name for each object, stop and check with your child do they know that the last number you count is the number in the set? What number comes next? How do you know? Do you have a number line in your house that the children can use? You could try taking numbers away…Do they notice? Do they know which one is missing? How do they know which one is missing!
The week the children have been learning the rhyme ‘Old King Cole’
Old King Cole was a merry old sole and a merry old sole was he.
He called for his pipe and he called for his bowl and he called for his Fiddlers three.
Now every fiddler had a very fine fiddle and a very fine fiddle had he.
There’s none so rare that can compare to King Cole and his Fiddlers three.
Old King Cole’s castle has been destroyed, we talk about what a plan was and the children then created a plan for a new house…next week the children will build them.
In Phonics this week the children have been learning the sounds j, v, w, and x. The children are continuing to practise their skills of blending and segmenting. At home you could help by playing games such as treasure and trash, http://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/BuriedTreasure2.html, it enables to children to practise reading unfamiliar words which is very helpful for developing their reading skills.
