Half term is in sight but the children have still been working really hard on their work in class. In our English lessons we have been imagining what London would have been like in the 17th century. We watched a video simulation to help us picture it more clearly. You can see the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPY-hr-8-M0 It was hard for some of the children to imagine life without all the modern luxuries that we now take for granted! We talked about the different sights, smells and sounds that we might have experienced if we’d visited London all that time ago and thought about how different it is in London today. Later in the week we wrote setting descriptions of 17th century London, using adjectives to help us describe things effectively, trying really hard to join our ideas using different conjunctions (e.g. but, so, or, because) and using prepositions to start our sentences in different ways (e.g. in, under, near, above, below).
Our maths work this week has been about fact families and thinking about the relationship between addition and subtraction. We discovered that we can make fact families about two parts and a whole, e.g:

12+8 = 20 8+12 = 20
20- 8 = 12 20- 12 = 8
In Science we have been investigating which materials can be changed by squeezing, stretching, bending or pulling. Ask us which materials we managed to change the shape of and which ones stayed the same.
Using the laptops this week, we programmed a screen turtle to draw squares in different colours then we created pictures made of rectangles and squares. There were some wonderful creations from robots to houses!
We are sending home a ‘Takeaway homework menu’ in case the children would like to do some extra London-based learning over half term. There’s a range of tasks but if your child chooses not to do one we just ask that they continue practising their reading and counting skills over the holidays.
