This week the children listened to the story of ‘Pumpkin Soup’ we talked about what ingredients were needed to make pumpkin soup and created a recipe using instructional language.
On Tuesday the children used one handed tools including scissors and peelers. The children peeled and cut vegetables and we made two different types of soup, vegetable soup and leek and potato soup. The children tried the soup on Wednesday morning and it was enjoyed by many, some children had seconds! Later in the week we made pumpkin soup and butternut squash soup, they were delicious!
The children have been exploring different vegetables; they touched the vegetables that the children brought into school and have been using vegetables to add to their mud kitchen creations. They used use the vegetables to print with paint and have explored the artwork of ‘Giuseppe Arcimboldo’ and create our own piece of artwork inspired by his work.
In phonics the children have been learning the phonemes/graphemes ‘i’, ‘n’, ‘m’, ‘d’ and have learnt how to blend the words for reading. They have continued to play games to support them with their listening skills as well as practising the letters they have now learnt. In maths the children have been learning that we can separate a group in different ways but the total will still be the same. The children explored different ways to separate six as well as ten. You could practise this at home by taking a given number of objects and separating it into different groups.
