This week we have discussed Christmas traditions in London, from the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree to all the lights and shop window displays. We’ve also taken some time to think about those people who are less fortunate than ourselves at Christmas time; we found out about the good work done by charities, such as Crisis at Christmas, for homeless people in the city.
One of the London Christmas events that we were excited to find out more about was Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park! We looked at the Winter Wonderland website and saw all the amazing festive attractions that are there, before looking closer at some of the language that is used to describe each attraction. We noticed that the website uses language to persuade people to go there – ask us to give you some examples of the adjectives and other persuasive language that we read. Having studied the real Winter Wonderland, we brainstormed ideas for our own Winter Wonderland and drew maps/designs of all the things we would include- ask us what they were.
In maths we had a go at some arithmetic and reasoning problems to see if we could use pictorial methods to help us solve them. Later in the week we moved on to working on the five times table and counting in steps of 5.
In art this week we made paper mittens which we decorated with coloured pens, then made snowflakes to stick on them.
We look forward to seeing many of you at our Christmas productions next week. Please note that for the evening performance on Thursday the children will need to be in school by 5.30pm to get into their costumes.
