This week we have started learning about the Great Fire of London. Before we did started, we created a large timeline to help us order some well-known events in the history of London. The events took place between 1600 and 2012 and included the plague, the first underground station opening and the Olympic games – ask us how many others we can remember.
So far we have used books, pictures and information from websites to find out how, where and when the fire started. We have also been investigating how the fire spread so quickly and caused so much damage. Ask us what we found out.
Our trip to London was really good fun, despite the three hour journey to get there! We went to the Fire! Fire! Exhibition and looked at models, artefacts and pictures to learn more about the fire. There was also a chance to dress up and use 17th fire-fighting equipment. Later in the week we wrote thank you letters to the Museum of London.
In maths we have been using bar models to help us write addition and subtraction facts. For example, if our ‘whole’ is 15 our ‘parts’ could be 9 and 6:
