We move towards half term at a quick pace and it seems like the children have been in Year 6 for ever! Here are some of their comments:
“When I came to Year 6 I thought the maths would be really hard and now I find it shocking how easy it is!”
“I thought algebra would be something I couldn’t do and I had no confidence, but I just went with it.”
“It’s like someone’s put a robot into my brain and now I can find missing numbers in a flash.”
“When I first saw the maths I thought, wow, I’m not going to be able to do this. But when it was explained to me the method just came to me and I get it now!”
It hasn’t all been about our mental challenge, we have found some time for fun and music with our new music programme. Some of you might identify with this and have memories of long hair, motorbikes and leather jackets – this week we have enjoyed the delights of “daddy rock” in the form of Bon Jovi’s ‘Living on a Prayer’ and we rocked! This got everybody moving and singing along, maybe you’ve been hearing some of it at home? Eventually, we’re hoping to be able to introduce our recorders and I bet you just can’t wait to hear that version played in the kitchen (apologies in advance).
Next week we have our trip to the Victorian museum in Reading and the children experience what it is like to be in a Victorian classroom for a morning – this session really brings history to life and usually includes some great character acting by a member of the museum (wearing full Victorian costume). Don’t worry too much if you haven’t got a costume for your child, the museum lends us pinafores for the girls and collars for the boys and we put these on top of what we’re wearing.
We’re also very lucky to be invited to RAF Benson for a visit and more details of this outing will be sent out shortly.
