English
In English we read a book by Drew Daywalt called, The Day the Crayons Quit. In the book the crayons individually write to their owner Duncan, to complain how overworked they are feeling. We each pretended to be a colour crayon and write a letter of complaint. It proved to be an inspiring book as the children really enjoyed writing their letters which were lively and interesting.
After being so careful in class not to break the crayons, the children were horrified to hear on Monday morning that my dog found the packet of crayons and chewed some of them up!
This proved to be a great catalyst for more letter writing. Everyone wrote a letter to me to tell me how it felt to hear the dog sniffing around the crayon box and eventually chew their fellow crayons!

We have also been writing autumn poems.
Maths
In maths we have moved on from 2D shapes to symmetry and angles. We have been identifying right angles and angles that are bigger and smaller than a right angle. Ask your child what they are called.
Science
As we now need to pay 5p for a plastic bag at the supermarket, we decided to do an investigation to see which bag could hold the most weight. After much discussion about how we should carry out our investigation, we decided on a plan. We tested three bags without any of them breaking. The quest goes on!
Homework task.
As the weather is going to be pleasant this weekend this task should be a pleasurable one. Collect some things for the autumn display. (to be left at school as inspiration for writing and to use for maths lessons )
Conkers ( some still in their outer shells ) and other colourful leaves, pine cones and nuts etc. No snails and slugs etc.
