Week 6 under the belt and the class are really starting to look like a Year 6. The maths work is starting to deepen in its complexity as algebraic problems are spotted breaking the metaphorical surface just off the coast of ignorance. In many instances there will not be a definite answer. In these cases the children will be working hard to find what the answer ‘could’ be rather than an absolute: tough stuff that requires a methodical approach.
Similarly, the writing is stepping up a notch or two as we swim with ever more powerful strokes further into the ocean of description. Expectations are rising as to the quantity and quality of the work produced as more grammatical conventions are introduced. Prepositions and adverbial phrases are now applied with almost wild abandon while we begin to plumb the depths of complex sentences and higher level punctuation, such as semicolons.

Finally, I am trying to set up the Abacus maths scheme to allow the children to access a variety of maths boosting games from home but am encountering a few technical difficulties. I’ll let you know as soon as this is fully functional.
