Week 5 (6/12/19)

This week in English and reading we have continued to read ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’. We have been continuing to work on using adjectives and adverbs in our writing as well as being able to identify which question is being answered. We have started to think about our own adventure stories that will be written in the style of ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’. We have planned our stories using the 5 part structure and we have been working on our opening sentences that really grab the reader’s attention.  In reading, we have been working on answering literal ‘where’ questions.

In Maths this week we have been working on subtraction. We started off using place value counters and then we linked this to the formal written method. Initially we worked on calculations without exchange and then we moved on to calculations involving exchange.

We are all looking forward to the Christmas performances next week. The children have been working really hard and we hope you enjoy it. Thank you for your support in putting costumes together.

There will be no more formal homework until after Christmas and the children’s home learning books will be kept at school. The children are of course encouraged to keep reading and practising times tables whenever possible.
